Obituary for William Belk

William Belk
William “Billy” Ray Belk, Son of Onetta Belk and the late Billy Ray Belk, passed peacefully in his sleep on February 6, 2017, with his loving wife Teresa by his side. He graduated from UNCC with a bachelors degree in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. Despite his numerous lengthy hospital stays during his college years, he persevered and graduated after seven years.

Billy loved sports whether competing or watching. In high school he was a “ranking” member of the chess club, participated on the golf team, and was a top competitor in doubles tennis in high school and college. Later he played pool (8-ball and 9-ball), which became his passion, winning several trips to Las Vegas to play in national tournaments. In 2002 he won his way through the Carolina Regional tournament to become a finalist and play in the APA national Singles Championships.

At the young age of 10, Billy became ill. This was the beginning of a life-long struggle, taking on many life threating health problems. He fought each one courageously, but not quite overcoming any, but carrying on determined to live his life to the fullest.

All of those who have prayed throughout his life will agree that he fought the good fight! His angel, Teresa, was by his side in the past six years, and brought him another reason to live! His family and friends also stood by him with caring love. The fight is over and a new life is in bloom.

He is survived by his loving companion, Angel, and wife Teresa Ayers, mother Onetta Dalrymple Belk, sister Suzanne Wainwright (Eric); nieces, Casey McCachren (Bryan), Kalee Wainwright, and great nephews and neice, Mason, Mac, and Kiptynn.

A near future celebration of life event is being planned. Ingram Funeral Home & Cremation Society is serving the family.
